LM: May 2019

Dear Table Leaders,

I hope you all are excited for the weekend and have fun things planned. As you have likely heard by now, on Sunday Pastor Kevin announced that he, Charla and Eloise will be moving to California this summer and Kevin's last Sunday at The Table will be June 30. This was not a decision he came to lightly, but in consultation with the the board and other leaders, we know this is the best step both for Kevin and Charla, as well as the church. We are excited to see what God has in store for us and we are confident in his plans for the future.

You can read Kevin's announcement here on our website. Also if you have any questions during this transition period, please feel free to email search@thetabledc.org and one of our trustees will get back to you. As we mentioned on Sunday, our trustees and myself will be moving forward in the search process as outlined in our bylaws. The board will be providing you a monthly update via email and in church once a month.

All ministry directors and pastors have been resourced to answer questions about this transition. Of course, you are also welcome to email me or email the board of trustees as mentioned earlier.

I'm excited for what God has planned for the church and am feeling much peace over this new season. The Table was not built around one person but built, frankly, around all of you and the leaders who came before you. I'm grateful for each of you and all you do to make our ministry in DC thrive.

Peace,
Jessica

A member of our congregation, Stephen Schaber, teaches a four-week course faith-focused course designed for those living in expensive cities that he will offer in May. The course covers the fundamentals of personal finance, such as budgeting, debt elimination, and saving for retirement. Each class is between 1.5 and 2 hours. LM: March 2019

Happy Friday, leaders!

Welcome to the March edition of The Table's Leadership Monthly Newsletter. We send this out the first week of the month to keep all leadersalert to what's happening at The Table. Old updates are stored here.

It's hard to believe spring is almost here (especially as I write this while enduring 32 degree temps + watching snow fall outside). With this new season approaching, we enter into the season of Lent. This is a time for personal reflection, lamentation, and confession of our brokenness, as well as an expression of hope in the coming death and resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. I'm praying this is a transformative season for you as leaders.

Please take a moment to review the news + announcements below. I especially want to direct your attention to Leadership Updates towards the bottom as we've welcomed many people to our team over the past month. PTL!!

Peace,
Jessica

CoHi Parish UPDATES

This Sunday was set to be our last service at our current building in Columbia Heights (1459 Columbia Rd NW). We will have one service there at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday.

Over the holidays GALA Theater walked back parts of the agreement they made with us and we've been in discussion on how to move forward. We were notified today that GALA still wants to have us but given the changes they are offering to our contract, we are discerning what's best for our community. Our trustees have a call tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. to figure out a game plan. We most likely are still moving there but we may need to wait until February. As soon as we have more information, we will let you know. We're trusting God will provide a way forward and Kevin plans to update the congregation on Sunday. Please continue to pray for open doors, provision, and wisdom/clarity for leadership.

We continue to search for a new home for the Columbia Heights Food Pantry that meets at 1459 Columbia Rd NW on the first and third Saturday of the month.

CoHi Parish is Moving!

On Sunday, Pastor Kevin announced our Columbia Heights Parish is moving to the GALA Theater in the new year. GALA is located at 14th and Park Rd NW (3333 14th St NW). We had been praying for a space in Columbia Heights that would allow us to do ministry safely as the current building needs many repairs. The GALA Theater became available but our hope was that our current building owners would give us a long-term lease and we could invest money into the building we currently inhabit. Instead, the building owners have decided to redevelop the property, turn it into affordable housing, with a worship space built in! They want to begin in 6 months and have asked us to find other space. GALA was available and the decision to move was made for us! Services in the GALA will begin on January 13, 2019 with one service time at 10:15 a.m. Nothing is changing about the Downtown Parish.

This will go out in the all-church email this week. Please begin discussing it with your teams/dinner parties and make sure they are aware of the special service times below for December 2018 and January 2019. LEADERSHIP UPDATES

  • Our Worship Pastor, Jeremy Green, will unfortunately be leaving us at the end of the year. Jeremy and Laura (and Evvie) have bought a home in Atlanta to be near family. Jeremy has been instrumental to our worship program and we are so grateful for all the gifts he has shared with our community this year. He will be missed greatly!

  • We are excited to announce that Jordan Jackson has agreed to join our team of ministry directors, and part-time staff, as our new Music Director. Jordan currently runs many of our rehearsals, coordinates our bands, and plays drums at both locations. We're excited for him to join our team and bring that same energy and passion to our leadership. He will overlap with Jeremy for the next month and a half and then be leading the music program in its entirety!

  • We continue to pray for sound coaches for both locations as well as a media coach for Columbia Heights. We also seek to find a Director of Production to join our team of ministry directors in a volunteer capacity and lead these coaches in their ministries. Please join us in praying for this!

  • Director of Family Ministries, Bethany Bolte, and her husband Jordan brought a new little one into the world last month. Take the family a meal and meet baby Avery by signing up here.

  • Dustin Musser has joined our Board of Trustees. We're grateful for the wisdom he'll bring to our team as we strive to be good stewards and have clear vision as an organization.

  • For reference, our Experience Team at both locations will now fall under the First Impressions Department (along with Greeting and Hospitality) and be supervised by Nicola Davis, our Dir. of First Impressions.

NEWS

  • Our new small group ministry has kicked off! This week we launched Dinner Parties! Dinner Parties provide an opportunity to talk about life, pray together, and spend time discussing questions that foster spiritual growth around a meal. The spaces are designed to be welcoming and inviting to everyone. Launch week has gone very well, and we've even had to close multiple groups due to space. We're looking to add more Dinner Parties to upper NW, Columbia Heights, and Capitol Hill. You can email Josh (Dir. of Community Ministry) with any questions or if you know someone who would be good to lead.

  • Many thanks to all of you who attended our ALL-IN Team Night! We had 65 RSVPs and 60 people in attendance. That's incredible. Please loop in anyone new that you met by inviting them to serve with you, by helping them find a Dinner Party, and by inviting them to any church parties or events. Let's build community!

  • We finished 21 Days of Prayer in September and we hope it was a significant season for you. So many prayers in our church were answered! Please complete this survey to share your thoughts on the season with us. Please also encourage your team members / Dinner Parties to take it. The link went out in the all-church newsletter yesterday.

  • Two weeks ago Kevin announced that our Board of Trustees and leadership team are prayerfully considering what our time in the Columbia Heights building looks like. A space has opened up three blocks north on 14th Street that is available immediately. We love our current building but the safety issues and lack of building management has been much cause of concern. Please pray for leadership during this time as we discern the best way to move forward.

EVENTS

  • Next Steps Track will be offered after the 9:45a service and after the 5p services. We still will hold the usual three classes on the first, second, and third Sunday of the month but no class after the 11a service.

  • Next month, we will host Aaron Niequist at our Downtown Parish on November 4 at the 5p service. This will be a special worship service that incorporates some liturgical elements and spiritual practices as well as instrumental worship. Aaron will also discuss some components from his new book, The Eternal Current. We had a large turnout last year when Aaron joined us and many of you had wonderful things to say about his time at The Table. Please encourage your friends and communities to join us for this special service. Our CoHi morning services will meet as usual.
