LM: May 2019

Dear Table Leaders,

I hope you all are excited for the weekend and have fun things planned. As you have likely heard by now, on Sunday Pastor Kevin announced that he, Charla and Eloise will be moving to California this summer and Kevin's last Sunday at The Table will be June 30. This was not a decision he came to lightly, but in consultation with the the board and other leaders, we know this is the best step both for Kevin and Charla, as well as the church. We are excited to see what God has in store for us and we are confident in his plans for the future.

You can read Kevin's announcement here on our website. Also if you have any questions during this transition period, please feel free to email search@thetabledc.org and one of our trustees will get back to you. As we mentioned on Sunday, our trustees and myself will be moving forward in the search process as outlined in our bylaws. The board will be providing you a monthly update via email and in church once a month.

All ministry directors and pastors have been resourced to answer questions about this transition. Of course, you are also welcome to email me or email the board of trustees as mentioned earlier.

I'm excited for what God has planned for the church and am feeling much peace over this new season. The Table was not built around one person but built, frankly, around all of you and the leaders who came before you. I'm grateful for each of you and all you do to make our ministry in DC thrive.

Sabbath May: Each May, we slow down a bit to rest and reset and give our leaders some time to relax. Apart from Sunday services, most of our extracurriculars hit the pause button. Dinner Parties and Next Steps classes will resume in June.

Summer Dinner Parties: Our Spring Dinner Parties are on break during the month of May and relaunch for the summer for June-July! Please identify folks on your teams or in your networks at church who have leadership potential and encourage them to consider leading a Dinner Party. We'd love to expand this ministry and one day have a dinner party on every block! Folks can learn more by emailing Josh McComas, our Dir. of Community Ministry.

NO DOWNTOWN / EVENING SERVICE MAY 26: Our Downtown building is unavailable on Sunday, May 26 so we will be having one all-church service at the GALA Theater on May 26. Please make sure you share this news with your teams and we encourage Downtown folks to serve at the GALA Theater that Sunday so anyone who comes in the doors from Downtown will see a familiar face.

Alexis Banks will serve as the Dir. of First Impressions over the summer while Nicola and Dylan Davis welcome their new little one into the world in June. She will begin this transition throughout May so please give her a warm welcome!

email me if you're interested / pray for these!

  • The Director of Production oversees the sound and media coaches at both locations.

  • The Next Steps Administrator emails participants following the weekly class to invite them to the next step, and connect them to the appropriate people in the community (dinner party leader, ministry teams, etc.).

  • The Media Coach (both parishes are open) schedules the team doing slides each Sunday at CoHi Parish and trains new team members.

  • We'd love to add a few assistant sound techs to our CoHi team which would involve helping with set-up and tear-down of the sound system. We'll teach you all you need to know!

  • Pastoral Transition:

    • Molly Byrom (Dir. of Prayer + Liturgy) will host prayer at The Table's office space on Wednesday evenings this month to hold the pastoral transition in prayer. Email molly@thetabledc.org for info.

    • For God's peace and grace as we begin the transition process for finding a new lead pastor.

    • For the gifts, skills, dedication of those on our board of trustees.

    • For all leadership who will continue leading the church in fruitful ministry.

    • For God's sovereignty.

    • For Kevin, Charla, and Eloise as they begin a new chapter

    • For leadership at The Table, especially the trustees and the pastoral team as they navigate this season, for continued wisdom and guidance from the Holy Spirit

    • For our future lead pastor, those close to them, and that they would develop a heart for DC (if they are not yet local) and that God would open doors leading them to The Table.

    • For provision and resources to continue our ministry.

  • Continued praises for the team at GALA Theater who arrives early each week to prepare our worship space.

  • For an incredible Easter celebration and all those who got baptized!

  • For our spring Dinner Party leaders who created warm hospitable spaces this spring. Pray for their sabbath month and that they end May feeling restored and rejuvenated.

  • For all those moving to DC this summer. That they may feel at home and welcomed!

  • For all new Summer Dinner Parties, that they'd bear fruit, and grow in their faith and number!

  • For new ministry team coaches for the Media Teams at both locations (CoHi and Downtown).

  • For Dir. of Production role to be filled

  • For our justice + compassion ministries, that they'd remain fruitful and we'd have resources that allow us to continue all programming
